Celebrating the 100th Anniversary Of the 106th Rescue Wing

The Cradle of Aviation Museum is proud to honor the 100th Anniversary of the oldest flying rescue unit in the country, Long Island's own 106th Rescue Wing.

Based in Westhampton Beach at Gabreski Airport, the 106th operates and maintains the only rescue aircraft in the northeast designed for aerial refueling. The 106th was prominently featured in the Hollywood film, "The Perfect Storm."

To commemorate the occasion the Cradle has opened a new interactive exhibit highlighting the history and role the 106th plays in supporting our country.

Blast Off! Families Exploring Space Together

Blast Off!, developed in collaboration with experts from NASA's Glenn Research Center, is designed to allow young children to pretend, play, and explore space in a fun and creative atmosphere. By encouraging family participation and incorporating hands-on family learning in an interactive environment, the whole family can let their imaginations soar! At the same time, young children will build essential developmental skills as well as learn something about math, science, language literacy and even the arts, and how it all interrelates.
