Cradle of Aviation Museum Celebrates Astronomy Week for the April Vacation Break.
Garden City, NY - The Cradle of Aviation Museum will take visitors closer to the stars all week long as they celebrate Astronomy Week, April 2nd through April 6th for the April vacation break. The week marks the Cradle's annual celebration of the stars and the world of astronomy and offers families a variety of activities that will give you a better understanding of the universe.
Build your own mini-star projector and show your favorite constellations at home. Navigate the constellations in the Cradle's own Star Lab or explore the museum in a new, interactive way with our Discovery Stations which are filled with hands-on artifacts and touchable objects that help to make the museum come to life.
On Thursday, April 5th, plan on participating in the 5th Annual Museum Row Astronomy and Space Day. The Cradle is proud to once again serve as the host for this award winning day that brings together activities from the Cradle, the LI Children's Museum, Nassau County Firefighter's Museum, LI Museum of Science and Technology, Hofstra University, Amateur Observers Society of NY, Long Island Space Society, Woodland Middle School of East Meadow and Weber Middle School of Port Washington and Division Ave High School of Levittown. The activities include Star Lab shows, solar telescope viewings, demonstrations, art projects and more.
Later that night the Astronomy and Space Day continues with Sky-Watch at Hofstra University. From 8-9:30pm you can be a part of this free event that will allow you to view Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula and other star clusters visible with telescopes from the Hofstra Observatory, Chemistry-Physics Building on the Hofstra campus.(weather permitting) For information about Sky Watch call 516-463-2759 or log onto www.hofstra.edu/astronomy.
