Aerospace Discovery Weekends
at the Cradle of Aviation Museum
during the month of August

Garden City, N.Y. - The Cradle of Aviation Museum will bring the wonders and excitement of aerospace to life every weekend during the month of August with a variety of new interactive areas in the museum galleries.

Each weekend in August you'll be able to explore the museum in a new way through the Cradle's own Discovery Stations. The Discovery Stations are filled with wonderful displays and inter-actives that allow you to have fun while learning about early flight or the space program. You'll be able to fly a mechanical bird, a kite or a blimp around the gallery or see how a wind tunnel or wing-warping inspired early attempts to fly in the Cradle's "Dream of Wings Gallery".

Then in the Cradle's "Space Gallery", you'll find out where astronauts have been, where they are now and where they hope to travel in the future. You'll also be able to try on an Apollo space suit and imagine you're returning to the Moon to pick up some moon rocks.

The Discovery Stations will be in action on alternate weekends as follows:

Early Flight Discovery Station in the "Dream of Wings Gallery"- Saturday and Sunday, August 4th and 5th and August 18th and 19th from 1-4pm.

Space Exploration Discovery Station in the "Space Gallery" - Saturday and Sunday, August 11th and 12th and August 26th and 26th, from 1-4pm.

The Cradle will celebrate National Aviation Day on Sunday, August 19th as part of their Aerospace Discovery Month. National Aviation Day was established by a presidential proclamation in 1939 to celebrate the development and advancement of flight and to honor Orville Wright on his birthday. On Sunday, August 19th visitors will be able to celebrate Orville Wright's birthday building your own Wright Flyer and by having a special piece of cake for Orville's 136th birthday.

"The Cradle's Discovery Stations are an exciting new way to experience the museum," said Todd Richman, Chairman of the Board of the museum. "It's a chance to see the museum in a whole new way." Participation with the Discovery Stations is free with museum admission.

The Cradle of Aviation Museum is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. on Museum Row in the Garden City/Uniondale area. It is home to over 75 air and space craft as well as Long Island's only IMAX Theater. For information call 516-572-4111.
