LI Defense Workers Will Tell Visitors How They Made Them So Tough

Back

A delegation of the men and women who built the Grumman F-14 Tomcat and the Fairchild-Republic A-10 will stand before these two aircraft now being used in Operation Iraqi Freedom. These former defense workers will tell visitors to the Cradle of Aviation Museum how these aircraft were built to stand up to the missiles and guns of Iraqi forces when the fighter-bombers are saluted in a special exhibit from Friday, April 18th through Sunday, April 28th between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Cradle of Aviation, Charles Lindbergh Blvd, Garden City inside Mitchel Field.

Both aircraft are among the last manufactured on Long Island and have won a global reputation for being among the most robust aircraft in any nation’s inventory. Of profoundly different design, they both have participated in the current conflict, dropping precision guided weapons on targets or seeking out Iraqi armored columns.
